Another Anointed Couple

“As na your wedding day na God Win
And e don tey wey you dey find but God Win
So we go pop champagne today…God Win
We go dance, dance, dance cause God Win o”

The groom at this wedding is my longtime friend and was my classmate in secondary school. As soon as he proposed to his fair lady, he quickly informed me of the date he had chosen for the wedding to avoid stories that touch. I assured him that I would cancel everything on my calendar for him; thankfully I didn’t have to do that.

I call this couple “Another Anointed Couple” because of where they met: A.A.U Ekpoma aka Ambrose Alli University aka Another Anointed University. Having met on campus, they quickly became friends and things stayed that way. However, years after graduation when Meyi (the bride) was called in to work on a project in the organization where Obbor (the groom) works, what started as a friendship grew into something deeper.

As soon as the couple was seated in the hall for the reception, I asked them to say how they felt in one word. Meyi (the bride) said she felt “grateful”, Obbor (the groom) had us laughing when he said he felt “speechless. Well, who can blame him? Dude probably was still coming to terms with the fact that he had netted such a beautiful, soft-spoken and unassuming young woman.

I strongly believe that the bible passage which says, “He, who finds a wife, finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord” holds much truth and the first of the favours came in the form of a heavy down pour that lasted all morning and well into the afternoon. That didn’t deter Meyi and Obbor as well as their friends and families from having a swell time though.

I teased Obbor about his very dark complexion, saying that Meyi probably requested for a candle light dinner for their first date not because she wanted to be romantic but because she was afraid he may disappear if PHCN takes light at any point during the date.

During the wedding game, it was interesting to know that Obbor is the better kisser and is always the first to apologize. Not surprising was the fact that, Meyi started the very first argument they had in the relationship and is the better singer.

I wish the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Obbor Ken Egho conjugal bliss and cannot wait to celebrate with them again in nine (9) months. *Wink*.
